of Modern and Contemporary Art

'Modern' art can be considered to start almost anywhere.

We begin with Manet, and continue on to the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists and Cubism, Fauvism, Dada and the Surrealists move into the Second World War. Abstract Expressionism leads on, in its own inimitable way, to Minimalism, Conceptualism, and the artists of Light and Space.

Warhol and the Pop artists loved the consumerist society, while Fluxus, performance and the video artists took it on.In the 'eighties we had postmodern art, and the return of classicism - and finally the yBAs and art today.
