Architecture

from Le Corboisier to Liebskind

Le Corbusier, Villa Savoye, Poissy
Gehry: Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao

Architecture is, to me, an artform that affects us all. We live within spaces defined for us, our thought processes are affected by them; but few know anything about the concepts underlying architecture, the way to build, or how shape and space affects us. Over the last century and a bit, architecture has changed out of all recognition - but most buildings are still constructed four-square. Primitive architecture tends to be built in the round.

In a few hours one can only scratch the surface of this subject, so we look at the important architects and buildings that have changed the way we look at architecture - Le Corboisier, Frank Lloyd Wright, Buckminster Fuller, Foster, Gehry, Liebskind, Rogers, I M Pei. The major thought processes behind 20th Century architecture are described, with defining examples.
